Lois Lowry's Blog
I've just had an email from my Italian publisher, whom I will see later this month in Bologna. They will be publishing my upcoming book, SON, in translation of course, after it comes out next fall. I don't know yet what its cover will be like in Italy, but here are the three preceding books in the quartet, and as you can see they are quite beautiful:
I'm especially taken by the middle one...GATHERING BLUE...because of the morning glories. Every summer my son Ben starts mg's from seed and then plants them along the side of my screened porch in Maine. By late summer they are thick and beautiful.
I'm just noticing that the first book has the title in English, with the Italian as a sort of subtitle; then the second has it in reverse; and the third has no English at all. Not sure what that means.
I am in Maine now, and there was new snow here overnight, so it is quite beautiful this morning. My contractor came for dinner last night and we planned the work he'll be doing this spring in my kitchen and laundry room.
And today I will be reading manuscripts for a competition for which I am a judge each year. Fire in the fireplace, snow outside, pot of tea, dog and cat snoozing on the floor, and a pile of stories to read. It doesn't get much better.
