This is my son and my grandsons, and this is October in Maine. Now aren't you sorry, some of you, that you live in Arizona?

Only joking, of course. But it IS the best time of year here.

This evening I talked to those two little boys in the phone, and their dad was reading them "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," which I had sent them. "How do you like it?" I asked the nine year old. AWESOME, he replied. What a great feeling, to hear a kid describe a book that way.

It is the ninth innning of the Red Sox/Indians game; and that's another reason it's the best time of year here.

When my younger daughter was a very little girl, she had an imaginary friend named October. We were not allowed to chuckle about that; October was a very real part of the family for maybe a year. Then she went the way of all imaginary friends, into the mists of memory and nostalgia.

I do pitching on the air for my public radio station, WUIS, in Springfield Illinois. Yesterday, I pitched during All Things Considered and heard your piece. It was wonderful. I spent a few moments talking about what an amazing author you are and that I had had the chance to meet you when you spoke at the Illinois Reading Council meeting a few years ago when my mother was president of the organization. Your book The Giver is truly an amazing work. But, I read all your Anastasia Krupnick books when I was little and loved those too. My son read all the Gooney Bird Greene books as well. In fact, the man I was on the air with has a young daughter and I recommended the Gooney Bird Greene books to him to read aloud with her. Thanks for that piece. It was wonderful to hear admist the bad news about Iraq, American Airlines, and the presidential race.

You know, even though I understand the connectednes you need to have if you wrote this into a book, sometimes the randomness is hilarious. Like here!

This is the first I have heard of a play version of "The Giver!" How exciting. I can't wait to read the "The Willoughbys" when it comes out. :-)

I am a young English teacher in an alternative education program in Massachusetts. We just completed reading The Giver. I work with difficult kids, not very motivated--all from troubled backgrounds. This is a shot in the dark--I came across this site randomly--but I would love, and my kids would be baffled, if there was some way they could contact you (mailing address, email etc.) with questions about the book. There are only 7 in the class. Thanks so much for your time.

Your students can email me through the website. Not through the blog, but by clicking on "e-mail me"
Best if they combine their questions into one email. I get SO MANY and it is easier to reply to one instead of seven.
